01.10.13 - Toronto the Good (a Party) & Detroit + Toronto (a Symposium)
Alumni Michael McClelland of ERA Architects, and John van Nostrand of planningAlliance will be participating in a symposium on Detroit and Toronto titled Drivers for Healthy Cities on October 25 at the Carlu in Toronto.
The symposium — organized by ERA Architects, in collaboration with the College For Creative Studies/Detroit Creative Corridor Center and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation — will provide an opportunity to reinvigorate discourse, trade, movement, cultural exchange, and investment between two great cities linked by history, industry, and culture. Entrepreneurs, activists, politicians, city staff, and developers from both cities will come together to propose innovative ideas in urban development, to investigate emerging issues in collaborative city building, and to discover opportunities for investment in both Toronto and Detroit.
Other participants in the symposium include Kevin Stolarick, Research Director at The Martin Prosperity Institute at U of T's Rotman School of Management, and Councillor Krystin Wong-Tam, board member of the University of Toronto Art Centre.
Registration for the symposium is $90 ($55 w/ student ID, promo code “student”); at www.torontothegood.org.
The symposium will be followed by the annual Toronto the Good party hosted by ERA, Spacing magazine, and others. Toronto the Good celebrates Toronto and gives urban-minded people a chance to network and debate Toronto's history, evolution, and future. This year’s party will feature delicious hors d’oevres, a Detroit-themed cocktail, and Detroit-inspired music.
Free admission; cash bar. Please RSVP to torontothegood@era.on.ca.
