A new elementary school for kindergarten students designed by Kohn Shnier Architects — the firm of Associate Professor John Shnier — was recently featured in the Globe and Mail. Located in Toronto’s Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood, the new public school, Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy, opened last fall to provide the additional space needed for the introduction of full-day kindergarten.
“It’s difficult to imagine a public building that balances social good, architectural quality and budgetary restraint better than Toronto’s Fraser Mustard academy,” writes architecture critic Alex Bozikovic. “Despite a complex site, the building by Kohn Shnier Architects is beautiful, unorthodox and highly functional — an example of what design can do to answer the needs of a neighbourhood and of young children.”
