03.03.10 - Mitchell Joachim / Terrefuge win Zumtobel Group Award

Architects Terrefuge/Terreform ONE, led by Daniels Gehry Chair Mitchell Joachim, have won the 2010 Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity in the Built Environment in the Research & Initiative category.

"Self-Sufficient City" (New York City Resource & Mobility) is for the sustainable future of New York. It is a conceptual master plan based on the premise that rapid growth, rising sea levels, urban heat island effect, and massive climate change will fundamentally alter the city. New York is envisioned as existing in a fully autonomous and self-sufficient state without any inputs or outputs from its border. Key areas of investigation include waste, water, food, mobility, energy and habitat.
