29.10.08 - An Infectious Idea: 125 Years of Public Health in Toronto | City of Toronto Archives

This new exhibit celebrates an important anniversary for Toronto Public Health, which has been providing health-related services to the people of Toronto since the first medical officer of health was appointed in 1883. The exhibit presents a selection of photographs from the Archives' holdings, with an emphasis on images from circa 1900 to the 1950s. It explores themes such as public health services for children and seniors, the struggle for clean water and air, the development of public health nursing and housing and social services. In addition to the photographs on view, the exhibit includes excerpts from Department of Public Health reports and log books, which provide an insight into the work of health care professionals, and their efforts to promote a healthy life for all Torontonians.

Opening on October 30, 2008.  Running throughout 2009.
