Derek Liddington (b. 1981 Toronto, Ontario) obtained his MFA from Western University and his BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Recent solo exhibitions include "the body will always bend before it breaks, the tower will always break before it bends" at the Art Gallery of York University, Toronto and Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge. Liddington’s practice and performances have been exhibited internationally at Art Berlin Contemporary, NADA New York, and in a solo presentation at Art Athina (Athens, Greece) curated by 8eleven gallery. Liddington’s performance works have been included at Nuit Blanche Toronto, and internationally as part of the project Puerto Rico in 2016 (Athens, Greece). Liddington has been included in numerous group exhibitions, including "The Sun has Always Set From East To West," an intervention at the AGO curated by Melissa Smith, "Flesh, Leaf, Marble, Twig" at 8eleven Gallery (Toronto), as well as Art Museum (Toronto) and the MacLaren Art Centre (Barrie, ON). A central part of Liddington’s practice is his use of residencies as a means of developing ideas of space and place. These include residencies at Grey Church (Vancouver, BC), AGYU (Toronto, ON), AKA artist-run (Saskatoon, SK), and Onagawa AIR (Japan). Liddington has been the recipient of numerous public and foundation grants, including support from the Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Liddington currently practices in Toronto.
