Landscape Studio 1 – LAN1011

This studio course aims to develop and apply theoretical, analytical, conceptual, design, and communication skills in landscape architecture. Emphasis is on the development of critical design thinking, spatial literacy, an awareness of ecological processes and sustainability, and design process skills. This studio addresses the fundamentals of landscape design and applications through readings, discussions, and studio projects.

This is the first studio in a sequence of design courses aimed at developing proficiency and confidence in the design of landscapes. Students coming from different backgrounds and disciplines will have a variety of skill levels that will vary from student to student. This studio endeavors to ground each student in the fundamental skill sets required in landscape design, at the same time, encouraging each student to further develop their individual strengths and interests.
