All applicants MUST submit a supplementary application in addition to their official application to the University of Toronto in order to be considered for admission. Those who do not submit a supplementary application by the posted deadlines will be automatically refused admission. Approximately one week after we receive your application the University will send you an email acknowledgement including your JOINid, your University of Toronto applicant number, and full information about the next steps in the application process. Your JOINid will provide you with access to submit your supplementary application.

You will have only one opportunity to submit your supplementary application. Once you have reviewed and submitted your supplementary application, your submission is final.
 
Students and applicants found to have used generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT)  to create content that is presented as their own will be disqualified from eligibility for admission. This prohibited use of generative AI for content creation will be considered an academic offence. Note: the deadline to apply for early consideration does not impact consideration of Ontario secondary school applicants. All Ontario secondary school applicants are treated equally during the assessment process so long as their supporting documents are received by the regular deadline.

Applicants are encouraged to begin preparing their supplementary application ahead of time.

Daniels Supplemental Application (BAVS Program)

Please submit six to eight images.

Images should demonstrate your creative thinking through the use of a range of media.

Alongside the images, please submit a 250-650 word statement that directly addresses two or three of the images you have submitted.

Please address the following in your statement:

• The ideas and research that inspired your work.
• What your artwork is made of and how it was created.
• Any personal experiences that shaped your process (if relevant).
• How your work connects to contemporary art and the ideas being explored by artists today. 

The use of generative Artificial Intelligence software to produce images or text is not permitted in your application and will result in automatic refusal.

Daniels Supplemental Application (BAAS Program)

Demonstrate your creativity by making an object from household materials. It is up to you what kind of object you want to produce—it can do or be anything!—and whether you use materials that are the same, different, or similar. Consider how pieces and materials relate to and connect with each other. In terms of size, you should be able to carry your object in your arms.

1. Document your object with only three photographs. At least one of these must show the final object, but the others could reveal how it was put together or highlight a detail. Use each photograph to express an important aspect of the object such as form, pattern, shadow, or texture.  
    
2. Write a short summary (maximum 200 words) describing your object and the key decisions you made. Does the object have a specific meaning or use? Why did you choose the material or materials you used? What techniques did you use to make and assemble the object?

No additional portfolio is required or accepted as part of your application.

We are looking to see your creativity, your capacity to experiment with one or more materials, and your ability to explain what you have done and why using images and text.

Architectural Studies Applicant Note:

Why is there no portfolio? We believe that students, especially at the undergraduate level, do not necessarily need to already have an aptitude in art or design to become successful architects, landscape architects, or urbanists. 

Approximately one week after we receive your application the University will send you an email acknowledgement including your JOINid/UTORid, your University of Toronto applicant number, and full information about the next steps in the application process. Your JOINid/UTORid will provide you with access to your Join U of T portal where you will be able to submit the One Idea. 

1. Once you have logged in, proceed to your Status Check page.
2. Follow the link on your Status Check page – “Supplementary Application” – to start your application.
3. Click on “Start New Application” on the bottom of the page to begin. A pop up box will appear, prompting you to create a new Supplementary Application.
4. After clicking on “Create Application”, an “Open Application” button will automatically appear, clicking on it will take you to the application.
5. You will then be prompted to provide your Written Response in Part 1.
6. Once complete, you will proceed to Part II – Creative Ideas. This is optional for Architectural Studies and required for Visual Studies. You should drag and drop media files into the area to upload them. Files will appear in the “My Portfolio” tab once upload is completed. You will be able to edit the title, year of completion, size, medium used, and a description for each uploaded image.
7. Following completion of Part II you will proceed to the “Confirm and Submit” stage.
8. Submit the final submission no later than the posted deadline.

Note: You can also save your application and return to complete or submit it at a later time. However once submitted, no alterations to your submission can be made. Please ensure that you return to your application to confirm and submit no later than the posted deadlines.
