Funding Package Sources

Funding packages are made up of a combination of major/external awards (e.g., NSERC,SSHRC, OGS), University of Toronto and departmental scholarships and fellowships, Teaching Assistantships and/or Research Assistant positions in the Daniels Faculty. The sources for individual packages will differ among students and may vary from year to year.

To maintain the eligibility for guaranteed funding, students must apply for NSERC PGS/CGS, SSHRC, OGS, and any other awards/funding sources for which they are eligible. External awards are considered part of the financial support package however, additional “top-up” departmental funding for some awards is provided. Please refer to the documents provided at the end of this page for more information on the funding package breakdown and the payment process/terms/conditions.

Teaching assistantships
ALD PhD students are automatically placed in Teaching Assistantship positions and some of the income will count towards their funding packages.

MScF and Forestry PhD students must apply for Teaching Assistantships if they are interested in securing a position. Income from Teaching Assistantships is above and beyond the funding guarantee for Forestry students.
Teaching Assistantship positions are posted on our website. Eligibility depends on a combination of your experience and academic background. The deadline to apply is typically the beginning of June. We encourage all students to apply. Please continue to check back for updates. Work-Study opportunities are available through the Career Centre. Applications for Fall/Winter positions are posted at the end of August.
