Admission Awards

Newly admitted students are automatically considered for the majority of Daniels admission awards. Recipients will be informed in their offers of admission (or through separate communication) if they will be receiving an admission award. 

John and Myrna Daniels Foundation Opportunity Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to students in the Honours Bachelor of Arts programs based on financial need and academic merit.

Hattie Aileen Sommerville Scholarship
Eligible Program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to a woman applicant(s) entering or continuing in an undergraduate program at the Daniels Faculty on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Recipients must be Canadian citizens/permanent residents, and must meet Ontario residency requirements.

John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design Undergraduate Award
Eligible Program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to new or continuing undergraduate students in good academic standing enrolled in the Faculty's undergraduate programs.

Ken Karpiak Memorial Scholarship
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded on the basis of the strength of the applicant's submission, reviewed by the Faculty's Awards Committee.

In-course Awards

In-course awards are conferred based on a student's academic performance and/or financial need while at the Daniels Faculty.  All registered students are automatically considered for most in-course awards. For Daniels in-course awards requiring applications, instructions are communicated directly to students during the academic year.

Mary M. Rose Scholarship

Awarded to student(s) in the Faculty’s Honours Bachelor of Arts, Architectural Studies; and/or Master of Architecture and/or Master of Urban Design programs on the basis of merit.

Barbara Allen Memorial Scholarship in Visual Studies
Eligible program(s): HBA, Visual Studies; MVS
Awarded to student(s) registered in the Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA), Visual Studies, or Master of Visual Studies (MVS) programs based on academic merit and a holistic assessment of their application. Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in exploring painting-based media.

Peter Prangnell Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA Visual Studies; MArch; MLA; MUD; MVS
The award must be used to travel to a specific location where the student(s) will remain for a minimum of a week to study the way architecture, landscape, urban design, or some other aspect of the human-built or modeled environment shapes and/or is shaped by everyday life.The award will be given on the basis of financial need and the merit of the applicants’ proposals. The recipient(s) must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident, and must meet Ontario residency requirements.

George T. Goulstone Fellowship
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; MArch
Provides a student or students in the Architecture program (undergraduate or graduate) with funds to devote themselves to a study of Georgian architecture in England.

Louis and Lisa Cheng Scholarship in Art History
Eligible program(s): HBA, Art History; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to a second or third year student who is enrolled in a Specialist or Major program in the Department of History of Art in the Faculty of Arts and Science or in Visual Studies in the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. The recipient must also have a high GPA of 3.3 (B+) as well as demonstrate involvement in the community. Financial need must be considered. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident, and must meet Ontario residency requirements. Awarded through Enrolment Services.

Harry Shapiro Scholarship
Eligible program(s): HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student enrolled in a Specialist or Major in the Visual Studies Program.

Ontario Association of Architects’ Scholarship
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to students in any year of study in the Honours Bachelor of Arts Architectural Studies program to recognize exceptional leadership through design excellence combined with innovative approaches to sustainability in an assignment or project.

Dharma Master Chuk Mor Memorial Scholarship
Eligible program(s): HBA, Art History; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to a student in a Major or Specialist Program in Art in the Faculty of Arts and Science or Visual Studies in the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. Financial need must be considered. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident, and must meet Ontario residency requirements. Awarded through Enrolment Services.

Arcadis - Richard L. Stevens Boundless Promise Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to (a) full-time, undergraduate student(s) at the University of Toronto on the basis of financial need in the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design. Preference for the award will be given to students enrolled in the Architectural Studies Program. Awarded through the UTAPS program.

Dee Dee Taylor Eustace Boundless Promise Award

University of Toronto Scholars In-course Scholarship

Provides recognition to the most outstanding students who have demonstrated academic excellence at the in-course level. 

Peter W. and Linda D. Hamilton Award in Social Housing
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to a student(s) registered in the Honours, Bachelor of Arts, Architectural Studies Program. The selection of the student(s) will be based upon research, coursework and/or design projects focused upon social housing, and how it addresses the needs expressed by comtemporary society.

Nelson Wong Architect Inc. Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to undergraduate student(s) in the Honours, Bachelor of Arts, Architectural Studies program on the basis of financial need and demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability in architecture. Preference will be given to student(s) showing promise or talent in design.

John Yamada  Memorial Study Abroad Bursary
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to student(s) seeking to participate in the Study Abroad program of the fourth-year Architecture program based on financial need.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Architecture Bursary
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to student(s) on the basis of financial need.

Daniels Faculty First-Year Design Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to the Daniels Faculty first-year undergraduate student with the highest average for first-year Design Studio classes taken during the current academic year.

Daniels Faculty First-Year History Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to the Daniels Faculty first-year undergraduate student with the highest average for first-year History of Architecture, Landscape, Urbanism and Art I and II classes taken during the current academic year. 

Daniels Faculty First-Year Technology Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to the Daniels Faculty first-year undergraduate student with the highest average for first-year Technologies of Architecture, Landscape, Urbanism and Art I and II classes taken during the current academic year. 

Daniels Faculty Second-Year Design Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to the Daniels Faculty second-year undergraduate student with the highest average for second-year Design Studio classes, with at least one class taken during the current academic year. 

Daniels Faculty Second-Year History Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to the Daniels Faculty second-year undergraduate student with the highest average in at least two of the three second-year History classes offered at the Daniels Faculty. At least one class must have been taken during the current academic year. 

Daniels Faculty Second-Year Technology Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to the Daniels Faculty second-year undergraduate student with the highest average for second-year Technology classes offered at the Daniels Faculty. At least one class must have been taken during the current academic year.

Daniels students are automatically considered for the majority of Daniels graduating awards. For Daniels graduating awards requiring applications, instructions are communicated directly to students during the academic year. Students are notified of graduating awards in June.

Daniels Faculty Academic Merit Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies; HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students whose cumulative Grade Point Average is 3.8 or higher.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Community Leadership Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students who have made a significant contribution to studio culture and/or the life of the school.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Comprehensive Stream Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students on the basis of merit in the Honours Bachelor of Architectural Studies comprehensive stream.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Design Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students on the basis of merit in the field of architectural design.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate History/Theory Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students on the basis of merit in the field of architectural history and theory.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Technology Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students on the basis of merit in the field of architectural technology.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Studio Art Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students on the basis of merit in the field of studio art practice.

Daniels Faculty Undergraduate Critical Practices Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to graduating undergraduate students on the basis of merit in the fields of criticism, publishing, curating, exhibiting, and related writing.

Daniels Faculty Visual Studies Undergraduate Thesis Project Prize
Eligible program(s): HBA, Visual Studies
Awarded to undergraduate students who completed in that academic year the Visual Studies Undergraduate Thesis Project course and whose work throughout the course and in the final thesis project is judged to be excellent. One to two recipients will be identified in each of the two thesis project courses: the Critical Practices Thesis Project course and the Studio Thesis Project course.

James and Hilda Warwick Award
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to a graduating student(s) on the basis of merit and excellent academic standing.

Toronto Society of Architects Scholarship
Eligible program(s): HBA, Architectural Studies
Awarded to a graduating student enrolled in the HBA, Architectural Studies program, who has shown an active commitment to volunteerism and leadership for the benefit of their fellow students and communities, employing their skills, energy and dedication for the betterment of others. 

University of Toronto Awards

As University of Toronto undergraduate students, Daniels undergraduate students are also eligible for admission, in-course and graduating awards offered by the University of Toronto. A list of available central awards and scholarships can be found here.
